Jazz Play Along
For drummers who can’t always practice with a live band, using play along tracks is an incredibly important tool for immersing yourself in jazz.
As you may know already, one of the best ways to learn anything is to surround yourself in it. Completely immerse yourself in anything and you’re bound to become a master, its just a matter of time.
Often times when I would only practice, I wouldn’t notice myself improving. It just sounded like I was getting better at playing rudiments and standard beats. My playing was robotic and controlled, there was no spontaneity. Don’t get my wrong, practice is absolutely essential in becoming a musician, but what else is essential is playing with bands and actually creating music.
Below are two samples from the JX Method play along tracks. These were recorded with a metronome, that you can choose to play along with. Also you can chose to play with drums or without drums. Check it out.
Eternal Triangle, Sonny Stitt – 300bpm
Cherokee, Ray Noble – 350bpm
